International Women's Day on 8th March 2013 was celebrated at Woodford Spiritualist Church. Facilitated by the counsellor, channeller and healer, Wendy Stokes. Women in all countries and cultures search for spirituality for many reasons, for instance, to seek support from others, to share experiences, to make contact with the divine to uplift and enjoy, to have a time of silence, relaxation and meditation and to discover spiritual meaning and find spiritual direction. Wendy built these elements into the workshop by using shamanic journeying with the drum, healing crystals and scrying mirrors, guided meditation and other methods and techniques to contact spirit guides, ascended masters and angelic essences.
Outreach to those of other cultures and ethnicities can be forgotten sometimes, and Spiritualism has roots in shamanism and other ancient spirit contact and communication that founded many world religions. Unlike many religious movements, Spiritualist has healing as major agenda, a practise that attracts women of all ages and backgrounds.
We were reminded that many women across the world are not free to express their spiritual beliefs (the Falun Gong for instance are imprisoned, tortured and murdered in China for their belief in seeing chakras).
One member of the group brought a perfumed candle crafted into a flower and when we blew out the candle at the end of the workshop, we asked spirit to send light to women in every corner of the world.
With thanks to the staff and members of Woodford Spiritualist Church space for offering their beautiful and dedicated church for our event.
