She's not a nice lady said the shop assistant
Without stopping once to think why that was
So rude and short in her words and temperament
And a little too quick in becoming impatient and cross
Never a smile does she wear upon her face said she
Only frowns; worry lines and a look of despair
Plus the way that she dresses is so last season
As is the way that she usually wears her hair
I don't think she's got many friends either
She's always alone when she comes in here
Searching for the latest bargains and promotions
And acting more than a little unusual and queer
I run a mile each time I see her coming
With that cloud of despair hanging over her head
It's clear her life is far from happy these days
And she's barely hanging on to it all by a thread
Have you tried smiling at her in friendship? Asked I
Or at least walked a mile or two in her shoes?
For I've heard that she's just lost a baby;
That's bound to give someone the blues
Plus her husband was let go from work last month
So cash can't be easy to come by I guess
That's likely why she was searching for bargains
With the weight of the world on her chest
Rumour has it that the banks are chasing her
That their home may soon be repossessed
That her daughter can't afford to go to university
So she feels down and rather depressed
Some say her son was often rebellious
Flirted more than once with the dark side of life
But thanks to her standing by him no matter what
Is now married with two kids and a terrific wife
Seems she's quick to help anyone in need of it
Has nothing but compassion and love in her heart
Plus she hasn't a bad word or thought about anyone
And if something needs done she's there from the start
I only wish more people were like her these days
Judged less and loved more on a daily basis
But it's easier to wrongly find faults in others no doubt
Than to look beyond what lies beneath their faces
For the true measure of a person lies deep within
People don't bear their soul on their sleeve
They show it by actions and deeds over words
Is such goodness in people so hard to believe?
So choose your words carefully else you condemn
A kind soul with your thoughts of spite and vile
Look instead for the good in all that you meet
And in their shoes at least walk a mile
Then look at the mirror of your own life
Are you really so prefect, whole and complete?
No, people are not always happy and jumping with joy
But still be kind and helpful to all that you meet!
